Nikon D300s Digital Field Guide Review
I’ve been wanting to make the switch to digital photography for a awhile now and my husband just bought me a brand new D300s. Along with this awesome camera he bought the D300s Digital Field Guide and I have to say, without this book I’d be a little lost.
I’ve been using a Nikon N90s for many years and being that this was a top of the line camera when I bought it. I thought that I’d be able to pick up the D300s and just go with it. Not quite! There are SO many more buttons and features on these digital SLR’s that I was just about overwhelmed.
This book has helped me so much. The first few chapters go into all of the buttons and controls and tell you exactly what they do. I was really grateful for the chapter on the menus. There are so many options in there that I was afraid to change anything lest I mess up something that I wouldn’t know how to fix. Reading through this book has demystified what these menu options do and it also gives you advice on when to change the settings and why. I highly recommend this book to anybody who wants a great easy to read, in-depth guide to their camera. Mr Thomas is a wonderful author. I would love to meet him one day.

This is the best knitting book I have read, and I have read many, mostly borrowed from the library because they all sound good but end up not being very useful. This one is very useful, and very easy to follow. I have owned it about 4 or 5 years. Before I bought it, I had only knit scarves. I have now made 5 sweaters and am working on the 6th.
The tables in it are such a good idea – you choose what yarn and needle you like, then find your stitch gauge on the chart. Then it has charts for each sweater so you can make one for you gauge in the size you want. They all fit perfectly, ages 2 to 50+. I even adapted the 2yo pattern and made a 6mo size sweater.
The directions for basic stitches and special stitches and increases or decreases are very good, and easy to follow with good diagrams. The same for special techniques for casting off or making lacey holes or other tricks. They are clear and direct, no trying to figure out what the abbreviations meant. There are also quite a few interesting collars and edges.
I highly recommend it.

Well, it finally was released. I was so excited to see that this book was on the way and I certainly haven’t been disappointed. I just love all the decorating ideas in this book – my husband grabbed it and off he went to the store to buy the stuff it recommends. Sure was beautiful when he was done. This book makes decorating elegantly so very beautiful for the holidays, and it just gives you so many nice ideas. But, the RECIPES! Yikes! Better buy those elastic waisted pants because you’ll need them after these awesome dishes. You know it’s bad when you want to start with the first recipe and just make everything else afterwards. That’s how it is with this book. It’s really that good! You won’t be disappointed with this book. I just love it!

My First Five Years – Fairy Edition (Baby Record Book) Review
All in all, I think this is a very well designed book. I’m not 100% positive that I loved the spiral bound look- makes it feel a little too much like a notebook- as if the pages could/should be removable- but other than that it’s just beautiful! The images and neutral color scheme adds just enough without being overbearing. It feels timeless and classic and is simple to understand and fill out. As a professional photographer myself, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a beautiful keepsake that will become an heirloom, should you choose to add a bunch of your photos or keep personal photographs minimal. Just what I was looking for.

I have used the Celebrity Black book for years. I am the mother of a disabled child and need to raise money for medical treatment twice a year. Since my son has multiple disabilities we do all of his therapy at home and he is completely home schooled. So I don’t have a lot of time. I find the Celebrity Black Book pays for itself. I use it after my son goes to bed and find it helpful to highlight through names as I send letters to people. That way I don’t duplicate my efforts. I can also bring the book and my laptop as we travel to work on my son’s fundraisers on the road or while waiting on doctor’s appointments. The only problem I have had with the book is once in a while you will get an address for someone who has passed on. So I always check with wikipedia if I am not sure, rather to send a letter. Good luck to others raising money for all the good causes out there.

I’m using the book in conjunction with a book of face portraiture which is giving me plenty of examples to practice on. Cartoon portraiture is very rewarding and is helping me overcome my face recognition disability.
