People: Images From The World (Cube Books) Review

This is a very small book (the pages are about 2″ by 2″). It can be hard to read the text, it’s so small; I must be getting old, I have to take my glasses off just to see the page numbers.

Because of the size of the book, the pictures are necessarily small, too. But it is very interesting to see just how much visual information can be crammed into such a small space–a lot!

I like the fact that it gives images of people from around the world, not just their facial or bodily appearance (there is a fair bit of that) but also their occupations, expressions of faith, etc. Truly does demonstrate the world’s diversity, which is a sight to behold in such a small space. Especially I recommend it for kids, and it seems appropriate for that audience, although there’s at least one picture of a bare-breasted tribesperson, if you care about that sort of thing.

I’m afraid I haven’t read the text except for the picture captions (which are absolutely essential. I’m not sure how much the text matters. It might to you. I skimmed some; looked liked blather, but I didn’t care. You buy a book like this for the pictures, not for the practically illegible text.

My 3-year-old absolutely adores this book, I think largely because of the size. I’m rating this four stars just because my 3-year-old loves this to pieces. But I like it a lot myself.

If there’s a problem I have with it, it’s that the cover started coming off (and needed immediate reinforcement) after some not-too-terribly-rough handling by said 3-year-old. The tiny caption size could have been increased without sacrificing anything except, maybe, a tiny bit of “style.”

People: Images From The World (Cube Books) Overview

This heart-warming addition to White Star?s renowned CubeBook series celebrates the differences?and the sometimes surprising similarities?between different world cultures. More than 500 slice-of-life photographs depict family, home life, celebrations, religion, food, travel, and the arts around the world. Babies, children, adults, and the elderly, engaged in everyday activities, are conveyed with affection and great attention to detail, the result being a unique collection of portraits that pay tribute to humanity. In a chapter on the family and children, readers witness tender moments between parents and their children that, regardless of the distinctive settings?which are as far-flung as Africa, Asia, and Europe?and the differing physical traits of each family, mirror each other closely. From rustic dwellings in rural India to apartments outfitted with every convenience in American cities, readers are taken into homes around the globe, and given a fascinating glimpse into the vastly differing lifestyles of people from around the world. Chapters on work, spirituality and rituals, food, and theater give further insight into the lives of others, with vibrant photographs conveying the traditions and daily activities that set us apart?and connect us, as well.

Putting People in Your Paintings Review

This book gave me answers to questions like:

1.how to design strong watercolor paintings
2.how to really identify values correctly
3.how to create paintings that work and are interesting

I like the approach to color by painting with primary triads and her watercolor laundry method. As a self taught artist, I learned mostly by trial and error. If I had this book sooner I would have made far fewer errors.

Putting People in Your Paintings Overview

Clear Instruction from an Award-Winning Artist

*No other book provides such clear instruction for putting people into paintings *Watercolor and people is a can?t-miss combo–the most popular medium with the most popular subject matter!

A lot of books teach artists how to draw portraits or figures, but this book takes that concept one step further, showing readers how to put those people into realistic scenes. It?s never been easier to capture the essence of people, with:

*11 step-by-step watercolor demonstrations, featuring interiors, landscapes, cityscapes and more *Inspirational quotes to keep artists motivated and encourage them to put people they care about into their paintings *A look at all the basics: shapes, values, composition, color and watercolor techniques

Draw Real People! (Discover Drawing Series) Review

“Draw Real People!” is geared for those wanting to take their art work into making realistic looking faces. My whole family enjoys drawing and we have taken lessons at the local studio. This book was recommended by our instructor for the kids (12 and 16) to use during the summer, but we all found it useful.

The techniques are time tested and following the instructions will result in great drawings!

Highly recommended!
